Traveling with: The Global Orphan Project, Kansas City, MO
Trip Objectives/Agenda: Anyone is welcome to go on the trip – students, family, friends. In Haiti, we will visit 3 to 5 orphanages, play with the children, and experience life in a third world country. We have the opportunity to visit several unique businesses and agricultural ventures which demonstrate job creation and entrepreneurial dignity that aim at orphan prevention so that families can stay together. We may also visit The Pathways Program, a special trade school set up by The Global Orphan Project for teens who have aged out of the orphan system. Pathways teaches the teens viable skills to successfully live on their own and be contributing members of the Haitian community.
While in Haiti, we stay at Jumecourt Inn which the Global Orphan Project owns and operates. Income from Jumecourt is poured back into orphan care.
About The Global Orphan Project: The Global Orphan Project is a non-denominational faith based group that provides sustainable orphan care. The trips they lead to Haiti are Vision Trips. This means they are not mission trips or faith based trips (in the sense that we are not asked to do faith based work nor are they doing faith based work while we are there). A Vision Trip simply means that those who travel to Haiti with The Global Orphan Project are given a chance to “see” Haiti, its culture, its orphan situation, etc. The Vision Trips are not a money making venture for The Global Orphan Project. The trips started ten years ago with a few friends and family. The word spread and the trips became so popular that they regularly take groups to Haiti (and other parts of the world) for an educational, visionary experience.
